Saxophone Lessons in Adelaide
At Learning Through Music, we offer Saxophone Lessons to students at our music studios and in primary & secondary schools in Adelaide, SA.
The saxophone is a fun instrument to learn and versatile in allowing its instrumentalists to convey a wide range of musical styles and genres. Being similar to the clarinet, learning the sax also offers an excellent transition point into learning other woodwind instruments. LTM welcomes saxophone students of all ages and abilities, from complete beginners to advanced performers.
Like all wind instruments, beginners can expect to work on fingering, breathing and mouth position. A variety of saxophone method books are used to help students learn their first notes and accomplish the basics. Students can also study band pieces during lessons if they are involved in ensembles.
Intermediate and Advanced Lessons
As the students skills advance and a solid technical foundation has been built, our students are then encouraged to explore and play their favourite genres. LTM also offers opportunities for sax students to be involved in jazz ensembles throughout the year. We can also help your child prepare for Australian Music Examination Board (AMEB) exams, school auditions and tests.
Our teaching rooms are set up for optimum teaching with modern aids and facilities. Our Studios are a great place for meeting likeminded musicians, and gain inspiration from seeing other students with their chosen instruments enjoying lessons.
It is best if students bring their own Saxophone to each lesson. LTM offer sales and hire of saxophones. We also sell music accessories to meet the needs of students. Studio lessons are available Monday to Saturday from 9am to late. Lessons are 30 mins in duration, but shorter or longer lessons can be arranged to meet the needs of individual students.
Students learning at their Primary or Secondary school with Learning Through Music will be given a specific time for lessons that has been arranged with their class and music teacher. Lessons at schools are 30mins in duration and can be arranged during or after school, at school.
Sax students bring their saxophone to school on the day of their lesson, usually keeping them in their classroom in a safe place until lesson time. Please contact us if you are interested in saxophone hire and sales.

- Is learning the saxophone easier than the clarinet?
Clarinet is easier than saxophone as it is lighter and it requires less air support than saxophone.

No you don't (just speak to us about hiring) however, owning a saxophone is better if you want to learn for a long-term.
- Is the tenor or alto sax better?
An alto sax is smaller, lighter, and more easily managed than a tenor, and its notes are higher and brighter than the tenor sax, but it all depends on your preference.
- What age should I start learning the saxophone?
We recommended that kids start around 7 or 8 years old. Any younger and it's hard to manage due to the size and weight of the instrument.

Playing saxophone and any other wind instruments can train lungs and diaphragm by a respiratory work out, making the core a lot stronger.
